TRANSALP RIDERS is very fortunate to welcome VIVALPIN’s Christof Schellhammer and Wolfgang Pohl as partnering operators of our winter tour program. To call them guides would be an understatement at best, since both have long been a permanent fixture in Europe’s professional mountaineering scene. As UIAGM / IFMGA certified mountaineering & ski guides, Chris and Wolfi are old hands in the business of international mountain travel and guiding. For onwards of 20 years, they’ve put that knowledge and their academic backgrounds to work as directors of VIVALPIN, Germany’s largest corporate mountaineering school and tour operator.
Their credentials don’t stop there: In the past, Chris and Wolfi were members of the instructor’s team for the German Alpine Club, a national association with a membership of 700.000 mountain enthusiasts. Both still serve as advisory board members and examiners of the prestigious German Mountain Guides Association. Wolfi further coordinates all aspects of the backcountry ski curriculum for the German Ski Instructors Association. The Bavarian Ministry of the Interior regularly taps into his knowledge as an expert panelist on alpine accidents. Chris and Wolfi are also gifted writers and regularly disseminate their knowledge to the public through radio, TV, textbooks and other print media.
Needless to say, the two are worth their salt when practicing what they preach on any of the big peaks around the world. And we’re proud that they and their team of accredited mountain guides teamed with TRANSALP RIDERS to share with you the best and most exciting out-of-bounds terrain this side of the Atlantic.
