The explanation of our four competence levels should make it even easier for you to decide, if the tour of your choice meets your expectations or whether you may want to consider an alternative.
| You feel most comfortable riding gently rolling terrain but will happily take on a minor mountain pass - as long as it is only for about 4 hours a day. You’d rather push your bike up a steeper section than crank hard to prove you can get over the hump. Challenging, technical riding is not what you joined this trip for. Spinning at a leisurely pace (avg. 6 mi/h or 10 km/h) is paramount to your enjoyment of the tour, especially if there are frequent opportunities to get off the bike and learn about local sights and delicacies. | |
| You are ambitious but don’t think you have the ability to ride challenging single-track or really steep, sustained hills. You’re confident on double-tracks, ready to ride around 5 hours a day and like the challenge of moderately long ascents and easy technical descents. But you will push your bike if either the climb or the descent seems too tough or daunting. You want frequent breaks but love to get back in the saddle to get on with the ride. | |
| You are an experienced rider with lots of quality time in the saddle and feel confident in your ability to ride long (6 hour) days with challenging single-track sections built in for good measure. You’re enjoying extended, sustained climbs and put up with having to push or carry your bike over short sections, since all that sweat promise equally long or technical descents as a reward. The riding through exquisite landscapes is a tour priority for you, but at the same time you don’t want to miss out entirely on the cultural sights along the way. You prefer fewer and shorter breaks if that maximizes your opportunities for riding and exploration. | |
| You seek an endurance challenge, get a kick out of riding long (7-8 hour) epic days and are prepared for hard (very steep and sustained) climbs and descents, day after day. You look forward to whatever challenges the terrain or mountain environment can throw at you, even if that means carrying the bike for an extended period. At the same time, you love sharing this experience in a good-natured, supportive team of like-minded individuals and have no need to out-compete the other members of the Transalp group. Your trip priority is clearly the ride as long as it is steeped in an authentic alpine environment and perked with relaxation and prospects of cultural experiences in the evenings. | |
